Eating the right way can boost your metabolism, which can lead to shedding excess pounds. And no matter what your weight loss or maintenance goals, boosting your metabolism to a higher rate is a good idea. There are several ways to give your metabolism an extra push, including early morning exercise. But eating can certainly be a metabolic power source.
First, breakfast is an absolute requirement. Though many people don't like eating breakfast, it fires up your metabolism, which has been at rest while you slept. A small 250 calorie breakfast is all you need to boost your metabolism in the morning.
Add spices to your food to increase your metabolism. According to the U.S. Agricultural Research Service, cinnamon is one spice that increases your metabolism twenty-fold...and all you have to ingest is a mere ΒΌ to 1 tsp per day!
While planning meals, you may want to add kiwi to your diet, due to their high concentration of vitamin C. In fact, if you add 500 mg of vitamin C to your diet, you may be able to burn up to 39% more fat during exercise. But don't get too much vitamin C! Once you get to the 2,000 mg mark, you may experience uncomfortable side effects like bloating, gas, and diarrhea.
Another factor that affects metabolism is what you drink. Add ice to a drink and your body will turn up your metabolism because it has to raise your stomach temperature back to normal levels. And, drinking a caffeine drink like coffee or tea can raise your heart rate and increase your metabolism.
Light levels have also been shown to affect metabolism, so when you're eating breakfast in the morning, sit near a window to take in the early morning sunlight.
Finally, you can really kick-start your metabolism by eating five to six smaller meals throughout the day. Eating fires up your metabolism. So, though it may sound strange, eating frequent small meals is an effective tactic that, if you stick with it and truly limit your portions, will help you lose excess weight.
